Must first get an approval of Land Transport Department prior to import used cars. Used car can only be imported by companies licensed under MISCELLANEOUS LICENSES ACT (Cap 127) for trading in the country. Importation of used car on the name of private will not be allowed except the applicant is qualified under General Exemption of Section B, Custom Import Duty Order 1973 or any special permit. Imported Used Car that are allowed under private name cannot be transfer ownership within a period of 4 years. Ownership must first get approval from the Controller of Customs. Value of used car for the purpose of import duty will be subject to customs evaluation. Used cars imported by authorized Company MUST not be more than 3 years of age from the date of its first registration and of right hand drive. Used cars imported under private name for applicant in para (iii) above MUST not be more than 5 years of age from the date of its first registration and of right hand drive. Imported used cars must comply with the following specifications:-
- The space for front and rear of registration plate should not be less than 216mm x 343mm or 533mm x 152mm.

Front and rear windscreen and side mirror should be of clear white type.

Light penetration on the glass should be more than 70%

Safety Glass Certificate should also be enclosed

Head light should be in white, signal light in yellow, rear brake and side light in red. While Spotlight is prohibited.

Used cars MUST not be modified or added with spare parts and measurements of rims and tires should be in accordance with the original specifications.

Used cars which are not comply with the above conditions or specifications during technical inspection by the Land Transport Department will not be registered and licensed. The imported used car must be taken out and will not be allowed to re-enter.

For qualification of a vehicle, is subject to technical inspection at Land Transport Department.
